BA#6

Warm-Up: I would like to write my feature story on recipes. I am most interested  in recipes because I love to cook. I can cook jambalaya, fettuccine alfredo, birthday cake, and many other things. I am also interested in drawing. I can draw things like dogs, cats, gorillas, and many others.

BA#6: Feature Story #2: RECIPES
Recipes are a set of instructions for preparing a meal. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recipe the earliest known recipes date from approximately 1600 BC and come from an Akkadian tablet from southern Babylonia. There are Egyptian hieroglyphics depicting the preparation of food. There are many recipes, but I am only going to tell you three. Those three are blueberry pancakes, a banana smoothie, and fudge brownies.

It'd be a shame to let blueberry season pass without serving up at least one delectable fruit-filled breakfast. I made my favorite recipe for blueberry pancakes along with some tips to help your kid-cook griddle them to perfection. Just remember, hot pancakes wait for no one. So have everything else like juice, milk, butter, and syrup ready to go so you can enjoy them right out of the skillet. If blueberries aren't in season, you can still enjoy these delicious pancakes by using frozen blueberries or different fruits.

Blueberry pancakes are so easy to make. According to http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/blueberry-pancakes-684353/ you first have to get 1 3/4 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Second you have to get 1/2 teaspoon pf salt,1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of sour cream, and 1/4 cup of melted butter. Third you have to get 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of finely grated lemon zest, and 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries.Mix up all of those ingredients and get a parent to help you pour the mix to a skillet and when it is done it is very good, Enjoy!

Don't you just love banana smoothies? According to http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/banana-smoothie-714686/ the ingredients are: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice, 1/2 cup of nonfat yogurt, and 1/4 cup of washed blueberries. Mix up all of these ingredients in your blender for a stupendous banana smoothie. You can also put in different berries for even more fun. I hope you love it, Enjoy!

Few kids can pass up a chance to bake a batch of brownies, and this Fudge Brownies recipe from http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/best-fudge-brownies-684571/ is especially irresistible. Made with generous measures of chocolate, butter, and sugar, it yields the fudgiest bars we've sampled yet. Here are the ingredients: 3/4 cup of unsalted butter,8 ounces of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate (coarsely chopped),1 of cup sugar, 1 cup of firmly packed light brown sugar,4 large eggs(at room temperature). 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans(optional).

Heat the oven to 350º. Lightly butter a 9- by 9-inch square cake pan (do not use a smaller pan) and dust it with flour, knocking out the excess. Sift the flour and salt into a medium bowl, then stir them into the chocolate mixture, about half at a time, until no streaks of flour remain. Stir in the nuts. Then scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it with a spoon.Bake the brownies on the center oven rack for 30 to 35 minutes.Serve slightly cool or at room temperature. Makes 12 to 16 brownies. According to http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/best-brownies/detail.aspx these brownies are magnificent!!! I mean "melt in your mouth good!"
