BA#10

Warm up: If I had one million dollars I would pay off all of my mom's house bills. Then I would pay tuition. Then I would buy a factory of Hershey's chocolate and eat chocolate every day. I would store $100 dollars into different banks so no one steals all of my money. I would also tithe 25% to my church and give some to the poor. I would also buy everything pink and redesign my room. P.S. I LOVE CHOCOLATE AND I COULD SWIM IN A BATH OF IT ANY DAY IN THE WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BA#10
                                   History
History is the study of man's past. History has been studies since Adam and Eve. Whenever you want to learn about history you can get a book from the library or at a museum. People who study history are called historians. When you study it you can learn about people, wars, or even animals. You can also learn about Kings and Queens. I love history and I hope you do too.

                                   Mathematics
Addition is a part of mathematics. Addition is a part of adding two numbers together. Statements in addition are called addition facts. There are over 100 addition facts. When I was in 1st grade I learned my addition facts and they were really easy. If you know how to find patterns easily you can do addition quickly.

                                  World Religion
Buddhism is one of the "major" religions in the world. It began in India at around 500 BC. The teacher's name is Siddhartha Gautama, but people call him Buddha. Over the years Buddhism has collected over 350,000,000 followers. His teachings are called dharma. The dharma teaches that every person dies and is born again. I don't believe in Buddhism.

                                 Animals
Arthropods are a large group of animals with no backbone and joined legs. More than 3/4 of animals are arthropods. Insects, crabs, lobsters, and arachnids are arthropods. They covered with a stiff shell like a ladybug. Their bodies are made in sections. Arthropods are really scientific and cool.

BA#9

Warm up: I wrote about the White House on Monday. I wrote about the W.H. because I love writing about big things. As you know The White House is VERY BIG! It has 6 STORIES! The White House has been my second favorite article because it is very historical and it has been in Washington D.C. for over 200 years. The White House is also very presidential.

BA#9: four paragraphs
                                                                 People
The person I am writing about is Milton Snavely Hershey. He invented my favorite candy,(pause for dramatic effect)....................................HERSHEY'S!!!!!! He  was born September 13, 1857. He invented them in September 3, 1857, in Derry Church, Pennsylvania. He is a Candy GENIUS!!!! They started selling the candy bars in 1900. He built a factory in 1903 and started business there in 1905.  Since the candy was so fantastic, they renamed Derry Church to Hershey in 1906. But every has to die and he did October 13,1945. :(
                                                              Sports
One of my favorite sports is tennis. Tennis is a game played out in a big area, but when you play table tennis it is on a table. Sometimes my dad and I go to the park and play tennis. Something I never knew about tennis is that when  two people play it is called singles and when four people play it is called doubles. Tennis can be played indoors or outdoors. Tennis is a great workout too because you have to chase the ball all over the ground.
                                                             Places
Amusement parks have been on earth since the late 1800's. According to dictionary.com, amusement park means a large park equipped with such recreational devices as a merry-go-round, Ferris wheel, roller coaster, etc., and usually having booths for games and refreshments. The first theme parks were called trolley parks. The first theme park was Walt Disney World. It opened in 1955 in Anaheim, Calafornia. And Walt Disney World is awesomely awesome!
                                                             Arts
Bugs Bunny is part of arts. Bugs was created in Warner Brothers Studios in the 1930's. His catch phrase is," Whats Up Doc." He is often chewing on a carrot. He has been my favorite show to watch since I was little. He has been in lots of episodes with other characters like Daffy Duck and Elmer Fudd.

BA#8

Warm up: If I could write a feature story about a place, I would write about Celebration Station.  I would write about Celebration Station because it is my favorite place to go for cheap ice cream.  According to http://www.celebrationstation.com/index.php?location_id=1&PHPSESSID=aeae991529dcd6fa8f033a7ec63cf0ad C.S. has great birthday parties, coupons, and even gift certificates.  I went there for my birthday and I had a blast.  According to http://www.celebrationstation.com/index.php?location_id=1&section_id=1#top C.S.'s game room features over one hundred video games. Their game selection is amazing and includes air hockey, pool tables, go karts, alley rollers, interactive games, prize cranes and more.

BA#8: 5 paragraph feature story:
According to http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/historyover 200 years ago the White House was built. It was built as a symbol of Presidency. The construction of the house started in the October of 1792.  President George Washington never lived in it because they didn't finish the house until 1800. The first president to live in it was President John Adams. It has housed over 40 presidents in the past. George Washington and city planner Pierre L'Enfant chose the place for the house to be. The house's address is 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. According to http://www.whitehouse.gov/about/history there was a competition to help find a builder of the White House. Nine people were submitted and an architect named James Hoban won a gold medal for his design.
People have debated over the name of it and called it,"President's Palace," "President's House," and,"Executive Mansion."  President Theodore Roosevelt gave it the name "White House." There are 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, and 6 levels in the house. There are also 412 doors, 147 windows, 28 fireplaces, 8 staircases, and 3 elevators. This is a BIG house. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House, it also has a tennis court, a single lane bowling alley, a movie theater, a  jogging track, a swimming pool, and a putting green. About 5,000 visitors come each day.

According to http://www.whitehouse.gov/, The White House has 5 full time chefs. The White House is able to serve dinner to as many as 140 guest and serve appetizers to more than 1,000 guests. The chef's name is Cristeta Comerford. According to http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/09/cristeta-comerford-to-rem_n_156737.html and http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/01/05/iron-chefs-and-healthy-eatingshe was also the chef for President Bush. She also versed Bobby Flay on Iron Chef America. She didn't win but she did make a great meal.

Some pets have also been presidential. Barack Obama and his family have a pet Portuguese water dog. His name is Bo. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bo_(dog), Bo was born October 9, 2008 and is 2 and almost 3(in dog years he is 14 and almost 21). The dog was given to them as a pet as a gift. His breed is very rare though. He is a good pet to all of the Obamas.

Some fun facts about the White House are:The White House requires 570 gallons of paint to cover its outside surface. There are a total of 50 entries and only 30 are regularly used.  If I were to visit the White House, I would go to the gift shop and buy souvenirs for my friends. Then I would take a tour of the whole building. I would have lots of fun!

BA#7

Warm up: If I could write about a famous person I would write about TobyMac. TobyMac is a christian song writer. TobyMac has allot of albums and won 4 grammys and has his own website, http://www.tobymac.com. TobyMac is also famous on Klove. I would like to write about him because his songs make me smile.

BA#7 Write about a person:
I am writing about TobyMac, whose real name is, according to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toby_Mac, is Toby McKeehan. TobyMac was one of the first Christian rappers. He was first known for being a member of the Christian singing trio DC Talk, staying with them from 1987 until their announced hiatus in 2000. He has since continued a successful solo career with the release of four studio albums: "Momentum", "Welcome to Diverse City", "Portable Sounds", and "Tonight". He also made two remixed albums of the first two albums titled "Re:Mix Momentumand" and "Renovating Diverse City", respectively. Between DC talk and his own solo career, he has sold more than 10 million albums. TobyMac has had six #1 hit singles including "Gone", "Made to Love" and "Lose My Soul."
Fusing pop, rock, soul and hip-hop into what he calls a “musical gumbo,” TobyMac’s solo debut,"Momentum" released in 2001.  According to http://www.klove.com/music/artists/tobymac/ it featured popular tracks “Extreme Days,” “Get This Party Started” and “Yours,” which were all spotlighted in popular TV shows and video games. Then with his 2004 album "Welcome to Diverse City", TobyMac upped the creative ante with tracks such as “Burn For You” and “Atmosphere.” All three songs were used in promos for hit television shows, movies, sports programming and commercials. Welcome to Diverse City was also awarded the Dove Award for “Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album of the Year.” Continuing to make compelling music with a blatant faith focus, TobyMac has released two more successful studio albums which recently debuted at #6 on the Billboard 200. Their names are "Portable Sounds" and "Tonight."
Right here, right now / Under the stars / I promise You my heart / ’Cause it starts tonight,” Toby sings on the chorus of the title track. If you gotta start somewhere why not here? If you gotta start sometime why not now?” he asks on “City on Our Knees.” And “I wanna straighten this before the sun goes down tonight,” he proclaims on “Start Somewhere.” His co-producer Chris Stephens, who has worked on TobyMac’s last three CDs, says,“There’s definitely a sense of urgency on this record.“And it’s an album that speaks of unity, of coming together and finding common ground to worship God.” Toby has long had a passion for racial reconciliation and unity, a recurrent theme in his music. His song TONIGHT includes songs of reconciliation of another kind—between husband and wife.
Toby and Amanda have been happily married for 15 years, but like all couples, it can be hard work sometimes. For Toby, who best expresses his emotions through music, it was a natural step to write about it. In “Hold On,” he sings, “If you move just a little bit closer / You can put your head on my shoulder . . . / Wipe away those tears / This one’s for you.” And on “Start Somewhere,” he’s downright confessional: “I said some things that I regret / And if I could, I’d take ’em back / But here I am, and there you are / The space between us is not so far / I’m reaching out my hand in love.” "Hold On’ is very personal,” Toby says. “Many lines are there to encourage my wife, but I know those lines could encourage anybody in a relationship. As for ‘Start Somewhere,’ any time you’re in love with somebody, you’re going to bang heads from time to time. I don’t know how many times I’ve been lying in bed, sweating it out and thinking, How am I going to make this right? But then you reach that moment of apology and forgiveness.
TONIGHT is typical TobyMac in many ways—an eclectic mix of rap, rock, pop and funk, all laden with catchy hooks and melodies just itching for airplay and audience singalongs. There’s even a healthy dose of reggae on the album closer “Break Open the Sky,” where Toby flexes his Jamaican family ties while Israel Houghton provides guest vocals. Other visiting vocalists include Skillet’s John Cooper on “Tonight” and Relient K’s Matthew Thiessen on “Wonderin’.”

That’s one of my favorite songs on the record; it’s a personal
Of course most of the vocals belong to the artist himself. Stephens says Toby “has stretched himself as a vocalist, he writes about things he is passionate about and his vocals reflect that urgency”. Toby agrees: “I do more singing on this record than ever before. I’m learning to use my vocal instrument in different ways, and I’m getting more comfortable with it everyday”.
It all adds up to a project that reflects one man’s desire to push himself beyond “very good,” to dig deep in the quest for that other country where greatness resides. He certainly reached for it. Hard.

BA#6

Warm-Up: I would like to write my feature story on recipes. I am most interested  in recipes because I love to cook. I can cook jambalaya, fettuccine alfredo, birthday cake, and many other things. I am also interested in drawing. I can draw things like dogs, cats, gorillas, and many others.

BA#6: Feature Story #2: RECIPES
Recipes are a set of instructions for preparing a meal. According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Recipe the earliest known recipes date from approximately 1600 BC and come from an Akkadian tablet from southern Babylonia. There are Egyptian hieroglyphics depicting the preparation of food. There are many recipes, but I am only going to tell you three. Those three are blueberry pancakes, a banana smoothie, and fudge brownies.

It'd be a shame to let blueberry season pass without serving up at least one delectable fruit-filled breakfast. I made my favorite recipe for blueberry pancakes along with some tips to help your kid-cook griddle them to perfection. Just remember, hot pancakes wait for no one. So have everything else like juice, milk, butter, and syrup ready to go so you can enjoy them right out of the skillet. If blueberries aren't in season, you can still enjoy these delicious pancakes by using frozen blueberries or different fruits.

Blueberry pancakes are so easy to make. According to http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/blueberry-pancakes-684353/ you first have to get 1 3/4 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, 1 teaspoon of baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda. Second you have to get 1/2 teaspoon pf salt,1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg, 2 large eggs, 1 cup of milk, 1 cup of sour cream, and 1/4 cup of melted butter. Third you have to get 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of finely grated lemon zest, and 1 1/2 cups of fresh blueberries.Mix up all of those ingredients and get a parent to help you pour the mix to a skillet and when it is done it is very good, Enjoy!

Don't you just love banana smoothies? According to http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/banana-smoothie-714686/ the ingredients are: 1 frozen banana, 1/2 cup of fresh orange juice, 1/2 cup of nonfat yogurt, and 1/4 cup of washed blueberries. Mix up all of these ingredients in your blender for a stupendous banana smoothie. You can also put in different berries for even more fun. I hope you love it, Enjoy!

Few kids can pass up a chance to bake a batch of brownies, and this Fudge Brownies recipe from http://familyfun.go.com/recipes/cooking-with-kids/best-fudge-brownies-684571/ is especially irresistible. Made with generous measures of chocolate, butter, and sugar, it yields the fudgiest bars we've sampled yet. Here are the ingredients: 3/4 cup of unsalted butter,8 ounces of semisweet or bittersweet chocolate (coarsely chopped),1 of cup sugar, 1 cup of firmly packed light brown sugar,4 large eggs(at room temperature). 2 teaspoons of vanilla extract, 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans(optional).

Heat the oven to 350ยบ. Lightly butter a 9- by 9-inch square cake pan (do not use a smaller pan) and dust it with flour, knocking out the excess. Sift the flour and salt into a medium bowl, then stir them into the chocolate mixture, about half at a time, until no streaks of flour remain. Stir in the nuts. Then scrape the batter into the prepared pan and smooth it with a spoon.Bake the brownies on the center oven rack for 30 to 35 minutes.Serve slightly cool or at room temperature. Makes 12 to 16 brownies. According to http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/best-brownies/detail.aspx these brownies are magnificent!!! I mean "melt in your mouth good!"
